About the event

Climate Change and Invasive Trees: Insights from Tortoise Research

Dr Raquel Garcia

Franschhoek Theatre, 24 September, 18:30

For decades we have seen evidence of shifting species’ distributions under a changing macroclimate. To understand how these shifts occur, scientists need to zoom in on the microclimates that these organisms experience on the ground. Microclimates are shaped by air temperature but also by local features such as vegetation, whether native or non-native. This talk will explore the effects of invasive non-native plants and global warming on microclimates and discuss the consequences for local cold-blooded animals, with a focus on tortoises.
