The Biodiversity of Our Soil: Springtails from South Africa to Antarctica

Charlene Janion-Scheepers

12 March, 18:30

Welcome Glen Farmhouse

Have you ever wondered what lives in our soil? Join UCT biologist, Dr Charlene Janion-Scheepers, at the Welcome Glen Farmhouse to find out! Charlene will be telling us all about springtails (or Collembola), tiny wingless invertebrates which are amongst the most widespread and abundant terrestrial organisms in the world - from mountain to coast, Arctic to Antarctic. Charlene has studied springtails not only in South Africa, but on the sub-Antarctic Islands too. So she is the perfect guide to introducing us to the microscopic world that lives beneath our feet!
