About the event
Mushrooms and fungi: Exploring the mycelium network beneath our feet
Prof. Heidi Hawkins
16 July 18:30
Welcome Glen Farmhouse, 36 Glenoak Road
The world's underground network of fungi has entered the public's imagination thanks to movies such as Avatar, Fantastic Fungi, and books such as Entangled Life. Some suggest that fungi have magical properties that will save humanity, while others take a more scientific approach. What is clear is how little we know about this kingdom between plants and animals. Join Prof Heidi Hawkins as she explores the vital role fungi have played in enabling plants to colonise land, the fascinating relationships they form with other organisms, and the ways in which fungi may contribute to climate mitigation and ecosystem resilience.
