The Underwater World of the Cape Peninsula
Georgina Jones (Southern Underwater Research Group)

From gigantic humpback whales to the exquisite minuteness of purple lady nudibranchs, the waters of the Cape Peninsula are crowded with a festival of different lives. Iconic kelp forests shelter fishes, hide predatory octopuses, and provide homes for crabs and limpets. The sand is a bustle of wandering starfish, burrowing anemones, and camouflaged klipfish. The rocky reefs are home to sea fans, moss animals, and snails, while visitors from the open ocean range from schools of common dolphins to speeding yellowtail or ghostly jellies. It's a world of colour, variety, and a vibrant parade of interesting and undiscovered species and behaviours.
