About the event

Was Darwin right? Exploring his ideas with modern science

Prof. George Branch & Margo Branch

Weds 28 January, Franschhoek Theatre

Few scientific publications have been as controversial as Darwin’s ‘Origin of the Species’. In this talk, the elegance, simplicity, and profundity of Darwin's ideas, including natural and sexual selection, will be explained. George and Margo Branch will explore how modern discoveries have revolutionised thinking about evolution. Five major advances mark this ‘new thinking’: endosymbiosis, virolution, master genes, epigenetics, and hybridisation. Fear not: all of these can be explained quite simply, and each one electrifies our thinking about how evolution operates.
