Prof Anderson described a method of tracking the journey of pollen and the competitive antics of pollination
On March 26, 2025, Prof. Bruce Anderson opened the year's lecture series with his presentation on "The Journey of Pollination." He explored the plant-animal interactions essential for pollination and outlined an efficient method for tracking the pollen grains of individual plants, thereby assessing the effectiveness of their pollination strategies.
The Bolander featured this article ahead of the talk.
Professor Anderson's research methodology is one to marvel at: using 'quantum dots' to trace individual pollen grains and determine their destinations before they are replaced by the pollination processes of other plants. Thus, the pollen wars commence...

The mechanisms different plants use for pollination are truly remarkable. Who would have thought that the sex lives of plants could be such a fascinating subject? This talk highlights just how intriguing the interactions are among plants as they compete for pollinators.

Certainly, Prof. Bruce Anderson will be presenting this talk to our GBYC and Deep South audiences. It's a treat for gardeners, beekeepers, and anyone interested in plant-animal interactions and the extraordinary evolutionary adaptations that facilitate pollination through the precise balance of these relationships. Keep an eye out for the schedule of his upcoming talks! We hope to see you there!
