An inspiring talk on what is truly an incredible journey of pollen, loved by all attendees of the local community
On Thursday, 16 April 2026, SmallTalX® welcomed Prof Bruce Anderson to the Welcome Glen Farmhouse for a fascinating exploration of one of the natural world’s largely invisible processes: the journey of pollen.
While many of us admire the strange and beautiful forms of flowers and recognise the visible role of pollinators, the hidden dynamics of pollen transfer — including the subtle “pollen wars” that unfold between plants and pollinators — remain unfamiliar to most. Through his talk, Prof Anderson revealed just how intricate and remarkable these processes truly are, using an innovative scientific methodology involving fluorescent quantum dots to trace the movement of pollen through ecosystems.
The result was a striking glimpse into the unseen complexity of plant reproduction, ecological interaction, and the extraordinary sophistication woven into the natural world around us.
In the lead-up to his talk, the False Bay Echo published this article.
